Repeated warnings for overland transport
The European Freight Association of International Freight Forwarders (Elvis) fears an imminent economic downturn in the transport and logistics industry. According to the association, numerous indicators, including inflationary trends, point to a coming crisis. The association advises SMEs in the sector to be cautious when making long-term investment decisions.
"The indicators are currently clearly pointing towards a recession," said Nikolja Grabowski, board member of Elvis. Personnel costs in particular have risen sharply, he said. The short supply of and competition for skilled workers is having an effect, he added.
Elvis put less emphasis on the fuel issue. It recommended that, in view of the current sideways movement of the economy, companies should increase the flexibility of capacities, strive to digitalise their entire workflows and improve efficiency, especially in the contract business. (sh)
