The first six months of 2021 were good to the Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas (International) (OOIL), a Cosco affiliate and the holding company of the liner Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL).
Profit in H1/2021 amounted to USD 2.8 billion, the group's best result so far. Total volumes increased by 19.5% in comparison to the same period last year and 3.93 million teu were handled. The overall load factor was 4.2% higher than in H1/2020.
Revenues more than doubled (+107.6%) to almost USD 7 billion, with revenue from OOCL's liner services growing by 108% to USD 6.5 billion. The average revenue per teu increased by 73.8% compared to H1/2020, reaching USD 1652.
The mega trends played for OOIL, also, which said in a press release that "Demand in key importing economies has been considerably stronger than forecast, especially on transpacific routes." (cd)
