Rebranding the Greek railways
In Greece, the private rail operator Trainose has been renamed “Hellenic Train”. The carrier has belonged to the Italian Group FS Italiana since 2017. Greece’s rail infrastructure is still poor, but major expansion projects are underway.
The Greek government invested EUR 4.5 billion in the country’s railway system in 2021. Upgrades to improve rail connections from and to the Greek ports Piraeus, Thessaloniki and Alexandroupoli will play a key role in the country’s green effort.
Furthermore, the rail operator and the Greek state recently signed an agreement for the supply of hybrid and other mother trains as part of the country’s ongoing green transition programme. (ben)
