RBP rents hybrid shunters
The leasing company Railpool will supply five Modula hybrid shunting locomotives to Rheinische Bahnpersonal- und Verkehrsgesellschaft (RBP). With this deal, RBP will add BDD (battery-diesel-diesel) and EDD (pantograph-diesel-diesel) versions to its fleet.
RBP is one of the first rail transport companies to use the new technology. In addition to the EDD's ability to use overhead line power, this latest generation of load-dependent diesel engines ensure significant CO2 reductions and energy savings, Railpool said.
The BDD engine delivers 1,000 kW, while the EDD engine produces variant 2.5 MW under the overhead line and 1,000 kW in diesel mode. The locomotives are scheduled to arrive as from Q3/2026. (ben)
