Railways secure fuel supply
Railfreight companies now have the opportunity to prove the vital importance their services play in moments of crisis.
For example, when the OMV refinery in Austria was shut down from June to October 2022, ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) organised replacement transports within a very short time and thus maintained the country’s fuel supply.
Because of the refinery outage, which lasted for more than four months, additional fuel supplies had to be found and transported within a very short time, primarily from Germany to Austria. During a general overhaul at the beginning of June, a mechanical incident has caused considerable damage to the crude oil distillation plant. (ben)
