Railfreight goes from strength to strength in Europe
Traffic performance on Europe’s railfreight network climbed to 469 billion tkm in 2017, and it is expected that the pre-crisis level of 474 billion tkm will be reached over the next two years, as a new study conducted by the consulting company SCI concludes.
Combined traffic on the north-south axis played a pivotal role. Lineas, PKP Cargo, Mercitalia and Green Cargo again saw their traffic performance in Europe increase. Other companies such as Rail Cargo Austria benefited from the good economic climate in Europe in 2017.
The Visegrád countries (Poland, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary) and Slovenia in particular reported significant growth rates in 2017. (ben)
