Rail transport in Russia becomes cheaper
Russian Railways (RZD) has introduced decreasing coefficients for tariffs on a number of items. The move is designed to attract additional volumes of freight to rail. The discounts regard the transportation of ferrous metals, scrap metal, pipes, chemical products and containers, RZD said.
In the first nine months of 2020, the loading volumes during on the network owned by RZD amounted to 922.1 million t, 3.6% less than in the same period last year.
Freight turnover since the beginning of the current year amounted to 1,876.6 billion tariff tkm, a decline of 3.6%. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs of fell to 2,377.4 billion tkm, a decrease of 3.9%. (ben)
