Rail services to cover Saint John

The railway enterprise Canadian Pacific and the shipping line Hapag-Lloyd have extended a long-term rail service agreement to the end of 2025. Having made successful calls at the port of Saint John in the Canadian province of New Brunswick last summer, Hapag-Lloyd will cooperate with Canadian Pacific and begin regular services to the key Atlantic Ocean port in 2021.

CP regained access to the port of Saint John in June 2020, when it acquired the Central Maine & Quebec Railway, and through connections with the Eastern Maine and New Brunswick Southern railways. CP also serves Hapag-Lloyd in the ports of Vancouver and Montréal.

The Canadian railway said that by using the port of Saint John it "enjoys about a 320 km advantage over the competition into Montréal, Toronto and Chicago." (ben)
