Rail delivers batteries for e-cars
DB Cargo Logistics has started to transport cell modules by rail for Volkswagen. The cargo is trucked from the manufacturer’s German warehouse to port of Magdeburg, Germany.
Once they arrive at the port, the lithium-ion cell modules are protected from the elements while being unloaded, prepared for rail transport, and loaded into sliding-wall wagons. From there, the modules are taken directly to the Czechian Skoda plant in Mlada Boleslav, 370 km away, where they are built into batteries for electric vehicles.
DB Cargo Logistics currently dispatches three wagons to Czechia per day, with plans to increase the volume to more than ten wagons a day in the future. (ben)
