Rail company MKB invests in vehicle fleet
Mindener Kreisbahnen (MKB) in Germany intends to upgrade its locomotive fleet as from 2021. To this end, the 121 year old rail company has ordered two new types of locomotives from Siemens.
The “Vectron Dual Mode” combines a high-performance 2,400 kW diesel engine with the option of drawing electricity from overhead catenaries to provide the required traction energy. Thus, this locomotive may be deployed without loss of efficiency on all tracks, independent of electrification.
The new rolling stock is destined for use on existing tracks but also for new connections. MKB operates its own network and serves the Minden inland port, local commercial and industrial areas and some other trading centres in Germany. (ben)
