Rail carrier takeover strengthens market position
The Swiss railfreight company BLS Cargo posted good results in 2019. This good position is an important asset that will help the company to weather the current corona crisis, the carrier commented. In 2019, BLS Cargo's turnover rose to CHF 293 million.
The uptick of 24.7% is primarily due to the purchase of the Belgian railfreight company Crossrail Benelux in 2019. Crossrail Benelux focuses on trains in Germany and Belgium and operates its services exclusively for BLS Cargo, which, in turn, manages sales activities. BSL Cargo points out that this division of responsibilities has helped strengthen the company's position on the market.
In 2019, annual profit amounted to CHF 5.6 million, remaining on the level of the previous year and transport volume amounted to 25,265 trains, 5,114 more than 2018. (ben)
