Rail Baltica: SILC now has all building permits

The Salaspils Intermodal Logistics Centre (SILC) will serve as the primary European standard gauge railfreight handling hub in Latvia. All permits for the construction have now been approved, so building works may soon be underway.

Once completed, SILC will accommodate containerised freight handling, short-term storage, transshipment between 1,435 mm and 1,520 mm gauge trains, as well as the handling of semi-trailers (piggy-back) and their further transport in specialised rail wagons.

It is estimated that the rail-road hub will be completed by the end of 2024. SILC is part of the large Rail Baltica infrastructure project, which aims to link up the 870 km of tracks in the Baltics with the European rail network. (ben)
