Quay and road access improvements in Matadi
At Matadi Gateway Terminal (MGT) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (Ictsi) has provided new funds to advance the terminal’s efficiency and provide easier access to the port of Matadi.
Kongo central governor Guy Bandu Ndungidi has laid the first stone to kickstart the construction of the 2.65 -km western urban road: 906 m will be built and 1,746 m will be rehabilitated.
Moreover, four new hybrid rubber-tyred gantries (RTG) will be installed, the first of their kind in an African port. They will level up the terminal’s productivity while limiting impact on the environment.
In addition, Phase 2 development for MGT is ongoing. These investments will increase annual capacities to 400,000 teu and 800,000 t. (lh)
