Qatar Airways Cargo's flower power
Valentine’s Day has become a key date in Qatar Airways Cargo’s business calendar. This year, the Middle Eastern carrier has transported over 4,000 t of flowers over a two-week period.
Exported from two main areas, Colombia and Ecuador in Latin America, Kenya and Uganda (via Entebbe) in Africa, the flowers are delivered to five major international destinations: Europe, USA, Australia, Japan and the Middle East.
To satisfy the significant demand during this peak time, Qatar Airways Cargo is intensifying the frequency of its flights to increase capacity. This translates into ten additional B777F flights from Nairobi to Liege and ten additional flights from Quito to Amsterdam and Miami, on top of the regular cargo and PAX ops. The carrier is also using road haulage services from European airports to Amsterdam. (ah)
