Pursuing sustainability and growth
Finnlines faced economic challenges in the EU in 2023, with revenue dropping to EUR 680.7 million, down 8% from 2022. Nevertheless, passenger travel on Finnlines vessels increased by over 17%.
The Finnish shipping company completed its EUR 500 million green newbuilding programme, introducing eco-friendly vessels such as the superstar ro-pax vessels ‘Finncanopus’ and ‘Finnsirius’, and three hybrid ro-ro vessels.
Finnlines is now focusing on fleet adjustment, cost-efficiency, and growth, which includes new routes like the Malmö-Swinoujscie line and expanded services on the Finland–Sweden line.
With moderate GDP growth expected in the euro area and Finland in 2024, the carrier plans to continue its green transition, with future newbuilding orders likely to be based on technical efficiency, alternative fuels, and digital services. (pb)
