PSA launches first hydrogen refuelling station

PSA Singapore, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Chiyoda Corporation have launched Singapore's first hydrogen refuelling facility at Pasir Panjang Terminal, marking a significant milestone in sustainable energy efforts.

Operational since 25 June, the facility supports a trial to transport and store hydrogen as methylcyclohexane (MCH), from which gaseous hydrogen is later extracted for use as a clean fuel.

The trial, which will run until mid-2025, aims to validate the industrial application of liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC) technology, facilitating hydrogen transport and storage under ambient conditions.

The project involves the collaboration of PSA, which built and operates the refuelling station, NTU, which led the laboratory proof-of-concept experiments, and Chiyoda, which provides its Spera Hydrogen technology for extracting hydrogen from MCH. It aligns with Singapore’s sustainability goals and showcases hydrogen as a viable decarbonisation pathway. (pb)
