PSA extends its JNPT terminal
PSA international has finally given the green light for its Indian project. The 2.4 million teu capacity addition at India's Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has got underway, an add-on to its first phase development that began in early 2018.
The terminal was awarded a 30-year concession for the public-private partnership project in 2014, including a total investment of USD 1 billion. Each phase of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals (BMCT) has been designed with three berths, banking on a 1,000 m quay fit for the handling of 16,000 to 18,000 teu vessels.
The BMCT's Phase II was to run from December 2019 till 2022. The second phase is now targeted for completion in April 2025. (sh)
