Protecting data in logistics
Niko Härig (pictured) is the joint head of the data protection section of the Bundesverband der Unternehmensjuristinnen und Unternehmensjuristen (BUJ, Germany’s national association of corporate lawyers) and the data protection officer at Timocom.
Härig is convinced that digital freight platforms enable efficient, real-time transport procurement – but that handling sensitive business data comes with responsibility. With cyberattacks increasingly targeting logistics, protecting information such as pricing, contact details and documents is critical. Best practices for users include strong, individual logins, two-factor authentication, secure messaging and careful vetting of new business partners.
According to Härig platforms should support these efforts with access controls, security mechanisms and role-based visibility. “The protection of sensitive data is crucial for trust and efficient collaboration,” Härig said. (js)
