Preparations for food hub in Rotterdam underway

After the United States, the Netherlands is the world’s largest exporter of agricultural products. Goods worth almost EUR 92 billion were traded in 2017, a large share through the port of Rotterdam. The port is therefore planning a food hub.

Of the 600,000 sqm earmarked, approximately 450,000 sqm are available for companies, and land allocation discussions are already ongoing with candidates for some 350,000 sqm. Preparatory works such as soil surveys took place in spring 2019 and the construction of a temporary road and utilities for the building operations will start in June.

The development of the site, which will be known as “Kop van de Beer” (Head of the Bear), will start in July with construction work for the site’s first client. The first companies will be operational there by the end of 2020. (kd)
