Powering carbon neutrality in the Med

Fundación Valenciaport has commenced work on the Power 4 Med project, seeking to advance carbon neutrality in maritime transport. It focuses on providing support and tools to facilitate the transition towards carbon neutrality for fishing vessels, commercial vessels, and marinas.

The initiative will initially promote the use of transition fuels like liquefied natural gas (LNG) and later ensure the supply of green fuels such as hydrogen, methanol, or ammonia. With a budget of nearly EUR 800,000, co-financed by the European maritime, fisheries and aquaculture fund (EMFAF), Power 4 Med's objectives include analysing fuel alternatives, assessing energy investment options, and piloting financial tools to support decarbonisation.

The consortium also involves other organisations, including SDG 4 MED and Rina Consulting, and aims to develop a support structure for a post-project and network with relevant EU initiatives for broader dissemination in the Mediterranean region. (pb)
