Ports sign decarbonisation pact
The ports of Barcelona and Shanghai have signed an agreement to collaborate on innovation and decarbonisation projects, aimed at enhancing services and logistics chain resilience between China and Europe. The agreement was signed by Santiago Garcia-Milà from the port of Barcelona and Shen Wei from the Shanghai International Port Group during the Barcelona-Shanghai investment summit.
Banking on smart port technology, the hubs will exchange knowledge to standardise digital processes and promote sustainable practices. Initiatives will include joint training in port management, digitalisation, reducing carbon footprints, and developing green corridors. The cooperation also extends to enhancing the cruise industry with a focus on quality and sustainability.
Following the signing ceremony, representatives from the port of Shanghai visited the port of Barcelona to learn about its logistics and services. (pb)
