Port’s rail access steadily improving
The Theemswegtrace, a 4 km long stretch of the Dutch Rotterdam harbour railway line, is a success. Since it was opened a month ago, around a hundred trains have been using what is now the first section of the Betuwe Route every day.
In other words, some 10,000 trains have already travelled along the section without any disruptions or delays - and the rail access is set to get even better in the future: the Port of Rotterdam has already launched a new project to develop the Maasvlakte South Marshalling Yard.
The first set of new tracks are expected to become operational in 2027. Several other projects are planned to extend port’s accessibility by 2030, including further new rail tracks and the electrification of the lines. (ben)
