Ports point to revival of world trade
According to the latest flash estimate, the container throughput index of RWI - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research and the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics (ISL) rose seasonally adjusted to 121.2 points in April 2023 compared to the previous month (revised 119.2). This slightly increases the growth in container throughput.
In Chinese ports, container throughput expanded even more strongly, with the index rising to 138.9 points in April from 135.3 points in March.
In European ports, container throughput seems to be gradually stabilising. In April, the North Range Index of major continental European ports on the North Sea rose from 94.9 to 96.4 compared to March. However, this does not yet indicate a fundamental reversal of the trend. The trend component of the North Range Index remains downward. (lh)
