Port railway shores up operational safety for the winter
The EUR 5.2 million project to extend and upgrade the quality of Bremen’s port railway (Germany) is making progress. The entire overhead line of the port railway in the Kaiserhafen-Nord has been renewed and 67 new lighting masts deploying the most recent LED-technology for a safe illumination have been set up.
In a further step, new heating systems with state-of-the-art control technology will be installed for 32 track switches and double slip switches. Sensors measuring temperature, humidity and snow levels will ensure that the heating systems will be automatically activated and deactivated only when there is a risk of ice and therefore operational malfunctions caused by frozen switches.
