Port priorities for 2024-2029
The European Sea Ports Organisation (Espo) has outlined its priorities for Europe's ports from 2024 to 2029, aiming to enhance their role in promoting a sustainable, digital, and competitive future for Europe. Key priorities include ensuring the effective implementation of regulations, supporting the ports as facilitators of renewable energy, and advocating for coherent policies on emission reductions and pollution.
Espo also emphasised the importance of maintaining a level playing field within the market, bolstering Europe's resilience through strategic port management, and promoting smart technology and cybersecurity to improve port efficiency and safety.
Furthermore, the organisation estimated that the ports require an investment of around EUR 80 billion over the next decade to fund high-value societal projects. It also stressed that the ports need to be integrated into city development and made more attractive for new businesses and talents. These issues will be further discussed at the upcoming Espo Conference in Paris. (pb)
