Port of Switzerland reports favourable start to 2019
A strong quarter may cast a shadow over the following year’s results. However that does not apply to the Port of Switzerland in Q1/2019 - even though inland shipping on the Rhine was way above average in Q1/2018.
The picture painted by Q1/2019 is easy on the eye – the volume of goods handled at Switzerland’s ports on the Rhine amounted to almost 1.54 million t, a 15.5% increase vis-à-vis Q1/2018 (1.33 million t).
The import of petroleum products, foodstuffs and animal fodder registered strong growth, as did the export of stone, earth-based building materials, ores and metal waste.
Only the throughput of waterborne containers declined to nearly 31,500 teu in Q1/2019, 14.2% less than the around 36,700 teu in Q1/2018. (kd)
