Port of Oakland still standing
The Californian Port of Oakland on the US West Coast witnessed an uptick in its October 2022 throughput. Total loaded container volume grew by 5.9% compared to October 2021. The port handled almost 146,000 loaded teu compared to 138,000 teu in October 2021. Full exports increased by 4.8%, recording 66,000 teu in October 2022.
“Although we anticipate that overall cargo will decline on the West Coast in the coming months, the recent uptick in volume at Oakland is welcome news, especially on the export side,” said Port of Oakland maritime director Bryan Brandes.
Despite October’s gains in cargo volume, it is insufficient to reverse the declines from earlier this year. Long-term indicators still point to an overall decrease in import cargo volume. (sh)
