Port of Lübeck expands intermodal capacities

Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft (LHG), which operates the German Baltic Sea port of Lübeck, is enhancing its intermodal position by developing a master plan for the area. Lübeck is already something of an intermodal bridgehead on the Baltic Sea. The port offers 50 weekly departures to industrial centres in Germany and Italy.

The master plan focuses on infrastructure and operations at the Skandinavienkai. Rail transport capacities of the Travemünde terminal will also be expanded.

The team at the intermodal terminal of LHG's subsidiary Baltic Rail Gate (BRG) will also be operational at night in the future, and 600 m sidings will be extended to 750 m. LHG will thus be able to accommodate more intermodal traffic in the coming months.

LHG's throughput has already picked up in the first three months of this year, compared to the same period last year. (cd)
