Port of Lobito embraces the future
The IMO-Singapore Swift project culminated with the handover of a new Maritime Single Window (MSW) system to the Port of Lobito, Angola. The digital platform enables to submit ship clearance information electronically via a single portal, meeting the mandatory Maritime Single Windows requirement set to take effect globally on 1 January 2024.
This rule supports the digitalisation and decarbonisation of international shipping under the FAL Convention. The project, a strategic partnership between IMO and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), reflects lessons learned from Singapore's national MSW, digitalPORT@SGTM.
It aims to enhance global shipping efficiency and was supported by Singapore's in-kind contributions and IMO's integrated technical cooperation programme (ITCP). Swift’s success builds on a previous IMO-coordinated MSW implementation in Antigua and Barbuda in 2019. (pb)
