Port of Brussels: change at the helm
Appointed by the Brussels government after a call for candidates and a selection process by an independent jury, Gert Van der Eeken succeeds Alfons Moens, who became director general in 2009 and who held this post until his retirement in June 2021.
Van der Eeken was elected for a term of five years. He is already very familiar with the Port of Brussels, having been a director from 2004 to 2009 and then a government commissioner from 2009 to 2020. He previously held the position of general manager at citydev.brussels.
Van der Eeken, bilingual and from Molenbeek in Flanders, has a master's degree in law, economics and taxation. He began his career at the ministry of justice, where he became chief clerk before taking on the role of advisor in the cabinet of the minister of justice until 2010. (cj)
