Port and rail carrier strengthen hinterland transport
A letter of intent has been signed between the port of Rijeka (Croatia) and the Austria-based OeBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG). The aim is to step up the transfer of traffic from road to rail to achieve a sustainable increase in freight volumes to and from the port.
RCG currently operates regular conventional and intermodal connections to/from the port. Almost 1 million t of goods, including raw materials such as ore and coal, are transported between Rijeka and Austria every year.
In addition, high-frequency intermodal connections between the RCG terminal Bilk in Budapest and Rijeka are now to be established, thus ensuring an efficient link to the growing economic region of Central Europe. (ben)
