POCC joins green power partnership

The Port of Corpus Christi located in Texas on the western Gulf of Mexico has joined the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) green power partnership, which seeks to reduce the negative health impacts of air emissions through the use of renewable energy.

The close of 2020 marked the Port of Corpus Christi’s third consecutive year operating on 100% renewable fuels. In 2020, the Port purchased green energy credits totalling almost 8.5 million kWh from wind energy sources.

The milestone marks the progress made since the year 2017, when nearly half of all Port energy consumption was purchased from renewable energy sources.

According to the EPA, the Port of Corpus Christi’s green power usage is equivalent to the electricity use of nearly 800 American homes on an annual basis. (cd)
