PMSA president retires after 29 years

The Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA) has marked the retirement of its president, John McLaurin, after 29 years of dedicated service. McLaurin joined PMSA as president in 1995 and has since served as one of the major voices and advocates for the maritime industry.

On his watch, PMSA members invested billions of dollars in new port infrastructure, expanded and modernised ocean freight and intermodal supply chains on the US West Coast, and implemented some of the most aggressive and expensive emissions reduction programmes worldwide.

PMSA has flourished during McLaurin’s tenure, PMSA said in a press release, as he expanded and consolidated multiple, regional trade groups across California and Washington state into one coordinated advocacy and policy platform. PMSA has now three offices in Long Beach, Oakland, and Seattle. (cj)
