PISR complies with STCW
The Palau International Ship Registry (PISR) has been recognised by the IMO as to fully comply with the International Convention on STCW. At the IMO headquarters in London (UK) in June, secretary-general Kitack Lin’s proposal was approved by the maritime safety committee (MSC) giving PISR’s white list status under the STCW convention 1978.
The STCW convention as amended sets minimum qualification standards for masters, officers and watch personnel on seagoing merchant ships and large yachts and came into force in 1984.
Palau is the latest ship registry to receive the green light to offer maritime training under the convention. (kd)
