Pilot to steer ministry of transport
After the recent municipal elections, in which his party suffered a substantial defeat, France's president reshuffled part of his cabinet. After prime minister Edouard Philippe's resignation and his replacement by Jean Castex, Macron has now appointed some new ministers as well.
The ministry of transport will be led by Jean-Baptiste Djebbari. This appointment can be considered as a promotion, since Djebbari has served as secretary of state for transport since September 2019. He was elected to the French national assembly in 2017.
Djebbari has particularly strong relationship with the aviation industry. He has worked as air traffic controller, pilot and head of a company for business flights. His experience in this field will no doubt be required when it comes to discussing the future of Airbus. The group has announced that it will cut around 5,000 jobs in France. (mw)
