PIK’s longest piece of cargo
Glasgow Prestwick airport (PIK) has handled its longest-ever cargo, a 20.4 m, 24 t consignment for the oil and gas sector, flown in from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). Two additional 12.2-m components were also transported for onward delivery to Aberdeen.
The freight was offloaded in 30 minutes, using three main deck loaders and two cranes, thanks to PIK’s upgraded ground-handling equipment. “Handling such oversized cargo requires expertise and coordination, both of which our team delivered," said PIK operations director Jules Matteoni.
PIK’s recent infrastructure investments, including high-capacity loaders, a pushback tractor, dollies and cold storage, were critical to this operation. “These upgrades directly support our clients, particularly in outsized cargo for the oil and gas sector,” business development director Nico Le Roux pointed out.
