Philippine ports see container throughput rise

According to the latest port strategy report, Philippine’s ports are seeing an increase of container handling volumes.

The Port of Manila handled a total of 5,474,484 teu in 2022, an uptick of 10% compared to 2021: this makes the port the seventh busiest gateway port in South-East Asia. It is the only port in the region with double-digit growth compared to the largest ports in the region with a decline in volumes and other ports in the region recording only single digit increases.

The Port of Cebu raised its container throughput by 2.5% (937,052 teu), while the Port of Davao posted a growth of 0.1% (824,898 teu).

For Jay Santiago, general manager of the Philippine Ports Authority, "last year’s figures as shown in the data demonstrate that Philippine ports are among the most successful in South-East Asia." (lh)
