Permission for civil aviation on military airbase
In addition to Swiss air force operations and search, rescue, and police missions, the Dübendorf airfield near Zurich (Icao: LSMD) is also to serve the local innovation park in future. However, this target will be reached only after a transition phase of several years.
Certain legal adjustments need to be made to open up the airfield to further civil aviation services in the short term.
Thanks to the amendments to the ordinance on aviation infrastructure (VIL) adopted by the Swiss federal council last week, individual aviation companies will be able to settle and use the airfield already during the transition phase.
The amendment to the ordinance solves a local issue, but the new regulation applies to all military airfields in Switzerland. The amended provision will enter into effect on 1 June 2023. (ah)
