Partners for major biomethane deliveries
United European Car Carriers (UECC) and Titan Clean Fuels are collaborating on significant liquefied biomethane (LBM) bunkering operations in the port of Zeebrugge, marking the start of UECC's 'green gas month'.
Titan will supply ISCC-EU certified LBM to all of UECC's LNG dual-fuel car carriers, with three vessels also featuring battery hybrid technology.
With this partnership, UECC aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 8,000 t of CO2e. UECC’s CO2 registry, introduced in January 2024, will allow customers to benefit from these reductions transparently.
The collaboration supports the carrier’s 'sail for change' sustainability programme and helps customers reduce scope 3 emissions, in line with tightening environmental regulations like the EU emissions trading system.
The use of LBM is part of the LNG pathway to net-zero emissions in shipping, with future plans to introduce e-methane produced via renewable electricity and electrolysis. The initiative is timely, as the European Union’s fuel EU maritime regulation, encouraging renewable fuels, will take effect on 1 January 2025. (pb)
