Partly sunny over Southern France

With a cargo volume of 51,300 t (-14.1% compared to 2019), Marseille-Provence Airport (MRS) did not fare badly in 2020, ranking second nationally behind Paris CDG.

For 2021, cargo director Jean-Marc Boutigny expects a growth of 7%, which should bring the hub in Southern France to a total of 55,000 t of cargo. Indeed, the airport saw its best ever December performance last year, handling 5,565 t (+11.6%) of flown cargo.

Asked by the ITJ about rumours that CMA CGM Air Cargo, launched at the beginning of the week, is moving its hub from Liège to Marseille, the headquarters of its parent, the shipping company CMA CGM, Boutigny said: "We hope to be able to handle individual charter flights to West Africa (Abidjan or Dakar) and the Indian Ocean (Ile de la Réunion)."
