Panama Canal: restrictions extended
The Panama Canal has prolonged its restrictions by ten months due to the ongoing drought. The measures include reducing the daily ship capacity from 36 to 32 and lowering the maximum allowable draft to 13.4 m, down from 15.2 m.
Waiting times for transits have increased, with communication between shipping companies and the Panama Canal Authority playing a crucial role.
Ships with appointments experience shorter delays, while those without appointments face significantly longer waiting times, up by 280% since June 2023. Effective communication is essential for smoother transits during these extended restrictions. (pb)
