Salmon farmer to bank on Eimskip lorries. Logistics service provider Eimskip, an Icelandic institution, has signed an overland transport agreement with Arnarlax. The company produced 16,000 t of fresh salmon last year.
The logistics services provider Eimskip has landed a lucrative contract. The company has been selected to handle road transport to and from the Iceland’s western fjords for Arnarlax. In doing so Eimskip can rely on its 130 delivery stations spread across the island and its expertise in handling fresh produce. Arnarlax is working on becoming Iceland’s leading salmon farmer. The company is optimistic that demand for its salmon will increase in the coming years.
In May this year Eimskip CEO Vilhelm Már said that “we’ve followed the development of salmon farming in Iceland closely over the years, and have developed our commensurate expertise to serve the industry both in land transport and export on board our vessels.”
Már expects the agreement to underpin the company’s position in the domestic market and highlight its strengths in meeting customer requirements in terms of reliability, temperature control and traceability in the logistics chain. Eimskip was founded in 1914 by 15,000 shareholders, which represented around 17% of Iceland’s population at the time.
Arnarlax, according to its CEO Björn Hembre, believes collaboration with Eimskip will improve its value chain – thanks to its new partner’s professionalism and documented logistics solutions.
