Pacific seafood shipments shifted to rail

Far Eastern Railways has been using the Freight Express service to deliver Pacific seafood since May 2020. The frozen fish is delivered to China from Russia’s Vladivostok, Ussuriisk and Uglovaya.

Container shipments of seafood exported through the railway checkpoint on the Russian – Chinese border at Kamyshovaya – Khunchun exceeded 2,200 t from May to July 2020, said Far Eastern Railways, which is a branch of Russian Railways.

The project has become an alternative to delivering seafood to China by road following the restrictions that were announced on the passage of heavy-duty road trains through a number of international checkpoints in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. (ben)
