PA airport wins grant for new cargo facility
The US department of transportation has awarded the Allegheny county airport authority an USD 18.69 million grant through the "better utilising investments to leverage development" grant programme.
It supports the construction of a 6,970 sqm cargo processing facility and an adjacent surface parking lot to expand air cargo operations at Pittsburgh airport (PIT) known as the "Cargo 4 Project", which will allow for larger aircraft or new destinations for integrator carriers that require sorting facilities and high volumes of truck access.
PIT has identified the cargo sector as an opportunity for new business growth. The implementation of the business plan and the success of the existing cargo programme led PIT to apply for the grant to construct a new cargo facility with additional ramp space. (ah)
