P&O reclaiming the Channel


P&O Ferries is returning to pre-pandemic times and bringing its fifth ro-ro ship back to the Dover–Calais route in the English Channel. The ‘Pride of Burgundy’, a 28,000 t vessel that can carry 120 trucks, will sail again in June. The unit will operate in freight-only mode.P&O Ferries, now a part of DP World, wants to get back the share of more than 50% of ferry freight volumes on the Dover Strait it held in 2019. P&O Ferries chief executive David Stretch underlined the fact that “we aim to return our market share back to where it belongs.”P&O Ferries is a major provider of freight transport and passenger travel services, sailing on eight major routes between Britain, France, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Holland and Belgium. Its logistics business, P&O Ferrymasters, operates intermodal links to countries all across the continent. (cd)
