Outsize milling machine from Belgium to New York
Chapman Freeborn recently managed a heavy and outsize cargo operation to transport a milling machine from Liege (LGG) to New York JFK. The team worked alongside ASL Belgium Airlines to charter a B747F for the transport.
At over 10 m long, 3 m wide and weighing around 28 t, the loading process for this outsize equipment was particularly challenging. Meticulous planning and collaboration with the freight forwarder, airline and airports was a necessity to ensure that the consignment was safely loaded onto the aircraft.
The machine was delivered to LGG the day before departure. Chapman Freeborn arranged for a crane to be in place to offload the equipment from the delivery vehicle. The crane was then re-positioned the following day to load the milling machine onto the B747F, ready for departure. (ah)
