Optimised wagons for waste transports
Two prototype wagons for scrap logistics are soon to put into operaton at tubes and pipes manufacturer Voestalpine in Linz, Austria.
The new wagons are standard Transant platform wagons that have been optimised with a special body for scrap transport and were developed jointly by Transant, Log Serv, and DB Cargo. They are more robust than wagons for lighter bulk goods and very short compared to conventional wagons.They however offer a payload advantage of around 30% over the same length.
In Linz, the Voestalpine subsidiary Log Serv operates Austria's largest connecting railway, its own Danube port with transhipment facilities and block train railfreight services. (ben)
