Operate more trains with a mouse click
The chemicals company Dow Olefinverbund has invested several million euros in a fully computerised interlocking, giving the Schkopau chemical cluster in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany) a modern and efficient connection to Europe's rail freight network, and permitting direct rail access from the north.
With the new system, signallers can now operate a total of 66 signals and 61 points with the click of a mouse. Construction work entailed the installation of 103 km of cable, the modernisation of ten sets of points and the complete renewal of the electronics system.
DB cargo and subsidiary Mitteldeutsche Eisenbahn (MEG) have been transport partners for over 22 years and carried over 167 million t of freight for Dow. (ben)
