Open-heart surgery at big air cargo hub

Lufthansa Cargo has celebrated an important step in the further development of its Frankfurt hub. With an investment volume of almost EUR 600 million, the German cargo carrier is focusing on a comprehensive modernisation by 2030, which aims to turn the Lufthansa Cargo Centre into Europe's most modern airfreight hub.

Since its opening in 1982, the LCC has been in continuous operation 24/7, and has played a central role in global airfreight traffic ever since.

The modernisation programme at the "LLCevo" site, which has already begun, includes the gradual renewal of all central functions by 2030, comprising cargo handling facilities, storage and conveyor technology, building technology, administrative buildings and IT systems.

The Luftansa Cargo Centre covers a total area of around 330,000 sqm - the equivalent of around 46 football pitches. (ah)
