Only road haulage has grown since 2012
In 2022, road haulage represented 24.9% of all freight transport performance (in tkm) in the EU, with its share growing by 0.4% compared to 2021. Maritime transport still accounted for the largest share of freight transport at 67.8%, despite a slight decline from the 68.2% in 2021.
Railfreight saw an increase from 5.4% in 2021 to 5.5% in 2022, while inland waterway transport dropped from 1.8% in 2021 to 1.6% in 2022. Airfreight (0.2%) remained the same in 2022 compared to 2021, according to the latest report of the EU’s statistical office.
Road haulage was the only transport mode to augment its share in the market compared to 2012, with the increase rate gradually rising to 2.9% over this period. (ben)
